Students will examine theological foundations for creation care, analyze the environmental challenges faced by Urban communities, and develop practical strategies for engaging the church in environmental advocacy and action. Through readings, discussions, and project-based assignments, students will gain the tools to integrate environmental justice into ministry.

Ministry & Community Partnerships

This course explores the theological, historical, and practical dimensions of ministry and community partnerships, with a particular focus on the role of the Urban Church. Students will examine strategies for building sustainable collaborations that address social justice, economic development, and community well-being. Through readings, discussions, and practical assignments, students will gain tools to foster impactful partnerships in ministry.

Nursing & Health Ministry

This program provides a holistic approach to health ministry, combining spiritual guidance, healthcare education, and community outreach. Participants will gain practical skills, spiritual insights, and strategies to address health disparities affecting the community.

Duration: 8 Weeks (1 session per week, 90 minutes each)

Ministry & Economics

This course explores the intersection of ministry and economics in an Urban community, examining how religious institutions have historically influenced economic empowerment, financial sustainability, and social justice. Through historical analysis, theological discourse, and economic theory, students will develop an understanding of the role faith-based organizations play in addressing economic disparities and fostering community development.

Ministry & Criminal Justice

This course examines the intersection of ministry and criminal justice within the context of the Church and Community. Emphasis is placed on the historical, theological, and practical roles the Church has played in addressing issues of mass incarceration, systemic injustice, reentry support, and restorative justice. Through readings, discussions, and project-based assignments, students will develop tools to advocate for justice, support affected individuals and families and engage in transformative ministry.

Ministry & Social Justice

This course explores the intersection of ministry and social justice, examining how faith-based communities and leaders address systemic inequality, advocate for marginalized populations, and foster social change. Through readings, discussions, and practical projects, students will engage with theological foundations, ethical considerations, and real-world applications of social justice in ministry contexts.

This course provides an in-depth examination of leadership, organization, and management principles within ministry settings. Students will learn best practices for church administration, strategic planning, program development, budgeting, and evaluation. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of biblical principles and practical skills necessary for effective ministry leadership.

The United States Constitution: Origins, Interpretation, and Contemporary Issues

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the United States Constitution, from its historical roots to its contemporary interpretations. Students will examine the drafting process, the structure of government it created, the Bill of Rights, key Supreme Court decisions, and ongoing debates about constitutional interpretation. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, primary source analysis, and understanding the Constitution's role in shaping American political life.

: Community Organizing in Urban Areas

This course introduces students to the theory and practice of community organizing with a focus on urban settings. Students will explore historical and contemporary models, develop organizing strategies, and engage with urban challenges such as poverty, housing, education, gentrification, racial injustice, and grassroots leadership. Through case studies, field observations, and practical assignments, students will build foundational skills for ethical, effective community empowerment and coalition-building.

Ministry and S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)

This course investigates the dynamic relationship between ministry and the S.T.E.A.M. disciplines. Students will explore how religious leadership can intersect with scientific inquiry, technological innovation, engineering problem-solving, artistic expression, and mathematical reasoning to advance social justice, economic empowerment, and ethical innovation in communities. The course fosters practical integration for ministry leaders working in educational, nonprofit, and community spaces.

Policing and Community Engagement

This course explores the evolving role of law enforcement in society and examines how police and communities interact across racial, cultural, and socioeconomic lines. Students will critically assess the history, principles, and practices of community engagement in policing, with a focus on building equitable, trust-based relationships in diverse communities. Topics include procedural justice, implicit bias, cultural competency, police accountability, and reform models relevant to all communities.

Faith-Based Prison Ministry and Reentry: Theology, Justice, and Community Engagement

This course equips faith leaders and nonprofit community leaders with theological, pastoral, and practical tools for effective prison ministry and reentry work. Participants will explore biblical and theological foundations, trauma-informed ministry, restorative justice principles, and strategies for building sustainable programs inside and outside correctional institutions. Special emphasis will be placed on grief, family systems, reentry challenges, and partnerships with correctional staff and community organizations.

Funeral Preaching: Comforting the Family, Honoring the Deceased, and Lifting Up Jesus

This course equips seminary students and ministry leaders to preach effectively at funerals by addressing the theological, pastoral, and homiletical dimensions of death and dying. Students will explore how to comfort grieving families, honor the life of the deceased, and lift up the hope found in Jesus Christ. Emphasis will be placed on contextual preaching, cultural sensitivity, and biblical faithfulness, especially in the midst of sorrow and celebration.
